ANTICORROSIVE PROTECTION SYSTEM BASED ON ALUMINA

The major method to inhibit corrosion is to coat the surface of the substrate with a corrosion inhibiting additive. Typical examples of such additives for inhibiting the corrosion of iron and steel are the chromates, phosphates, and silicates.[1,2] They frequently are effective with stainless steel and other alloys. The aim of this paper was to present the possibility of use alumina resulted from the Bayer process as corrosion inhibitor for corrosion prevention. The Bayer process is one of the most widespread methods for the manufacture of alumina from bauxite low in iron and silicon. The protective film coating was prepared from porphyrin, paint alkyd-melamine enamel with granular material.[3] In order to determine the resistance of alumina as a corrosion inhibitor we used the salt spray chamber for 14 days. Following the studies, we applied the improved method of dipping the electrode in paint before and after passing through the granular material. Carbon-steel electrodes were coated with the developed pain: porphyrin, paint alkyd-melamine enamel with granular alumina. The resistance of alumina as a corrosion inhibitor was investigated in salt spray cabinet for 14 days with exposure zone temperature at 35°C. The test is 24 hour repetitive cycles: 5 minute spray and 55 minutes dry off. The protected layer use in this study improves the anti-corrosion properties of carbon-steel electrodes.
